Liverpool had been interested in the striker but it now looks like the Reds will have to look elsewhere to bolster his striking front.
Liverpool had made a bid earlier this month to trigger the release clause in Costa’s contract, but the man was happy at Athletico.
Nothing
Manger Brendan Rodgers believes that the player will not be moving to Anfield: “I believe Costa has signed an extension. There’s nothing in terms of players to add,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“We’ve signed players early on and we hope to sign some more before the end of the window. In the meantime, there’s nothing at the minute.”
Liverpool have also agreed terms with Valencia left back Aly Cissokho, but Rodgers was less open to speak about him saying, “There’s nothing on the Cissokho story.”
Liverpool will now look into other options for their strikers before the new season as the Luis Suarez saga continues.
